Today, on Giving Tuesday,
nourish your neighbors with nutrient-filled foods sourced from your neighborhood farmers, fishers, ranchers, and food-makers.

Tillamook County food producers are a resource unlike any other: they enhance our local economy, help protect our environment, and fortify and fuel our minds and bodies. How? They spend money they earn locally just like you—at your own businesses, or at your place of employment. And did you know, the average produce in grocery stores travel 1,500 miles to reach us? Canned and boxed foods also travel a mighty distance. In addition, many, if not all, Tillamook County farmers grow produce without pesticides, and ranch cattle and sheep without chemical fertilizers. Small-scale farm food is also more nutrient-dense than produce that traveled those 1,500 miles, giving us more energy and nurturing sharp minds.
That’s why Food Roots consistently takes an active role in purchasing foods directly from Tillamook County farmers, fishers, ranchers, and food-makers, and delivering them directly to other Tillamook County families.
From recipe-making activities in the classroom with Tillamook pre-k students who are then sent home with recipes and the ingredients to put on their table that evening, to home deliveries, there’s nothing like helping local farmers feed local families. We love learning what fresh ingredients families prefer to cook with, and ensuring that we provide as many of those as possible.
Today, we invite you to take an active role in nourishing and supporting your neighbors by helping Food Roots continue this work. If you can’t give financially, we hope you sign up as a volunteer to help us portion ingredients, pack and hand out meal kits, write grants, or participate in other activities to support us in nourishing our community from the ground up.
With gratitude,
The Food Roots team
