Grow a Row for the Hungry in Tillamook County

Calling all gardeners! Food Roots is encouraging local gardeners to plant an extra row or bed in their gardens this year, and “Grow a Row for the Hungry” in 2011.  How can YOU help?  Your gardening skills and your extra bounty (fresh fruits and vegetables) can make a big difference to a hungry family. You can even team up with a friend, neighbor or group to make a bigger difference.  Apples, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, onions, squash, peppers, tomatoes, beans, potatoes, blueberries and beets are especially popular, but some of the lesser known vegetables are a big hit also.  No donation is too small or too large.  Produce should be free of spoilage and bruising; it is appreciated if it is field washed.

There are two options for donating your produce:
1. Bring your donation to the Regional Food Bank of Tillamook County, a program of Oregon Food Bank in Tillamook.  The Regional Food Bank will then distribute the produce to food programs throughout Tillamook County.  They are located at 2105 Fourth Street in Tillamook (in the same building as Food Roots).
OR
2. Bring your donation directly to a food pantry, soup kitchen or other program near your community.  To find out where these programs are located, you can call the Regional Food Bank at 503-842-3154 x1 or 4 for these locations.
