    2:30 – 4:30pmWhite Clover Grange

The 8th Annual Pie Day is coming! Once again, this fun and fantastic event will be taking place at the White Clover Grange in Nehalem (36585 Highway 53) and will be a joint fundraiser for Food Roots and the White Clover Grange.

For just $10 at the door ($5 for kids under 12) you will gain entry to an exciting pie auction with our returning auctioneer, the amazing Susan Tone. You will be regaled with a can’t-miss rendition of Liz Cole’s traditional “Ode to Pie.” And after all that entertainment? The all-you-can-eat pie and ice cream feast!

How many pies will be at this event? That’s a proprietary secret. But it’s going to be a ridiculous number. Fruit pies, custard pies, savory pies, vegan pies, gluten-free pies, maybe we’ll even sneak in a chicken pot pie! Who knows? (Chicken pot pie not guaranteed.)

It all takes place on National Pie Day: Saturday, January 23rd, from 2:30 to 4:30pm at the White Clover Grange. There’s nothing better to get you through a winter’s afternoon than bidding on a delicious, locally made pie and then celebrating by eating as much pie and ice cream as you can handle, all while supporting two great organizations.

    Coastal Farmers Retreat

    9am – 8pm Saturday, January 30, 2016
    North Fork 53, Nehalem, OR
$30/person (pay online at bottom of event listing)

This event is by farmers for farmers.  It is a chance to meet with your fellow coastal growers and ranchers to talk about what YOU want to talk about.

The participants:  This event is for commercial growers, farm workers, and folks actively working towards developing a commercial farm.  The focus will be on farm businesses that sell their products directly to their customers.

The content: The day will feature structured and spontaneous discussion, troubleshooting and problem solving, creativity, and moral support.  And we’ll make sure you don’t have to sit inside all day if you don’t want to, with built in free time and a beautiful setting to play in.

The location: We are excited to be working with North Fork 53 this year, who have generously donated their space for the retreat.  North Fork 53 is the north coast’s newest agritourism venture.  Their operation includes a B&B, event space, workshops, value added products, and more, in addition to traditional farm production. During the retreat, we’ll have a chance to hear from farmer Ginger about the new model and see it first hand.  Limited overnight accommodations may be available, contact us for more info.

The food: Last year’s attendees will remember the amazing food, and we are happy to bring back caterers Helen Fey Maze and KJ Konink.  The cost of attendance includes a morning snack, lunch, and dinner, skillfully prepared with as many local products as possible.  We will be happy to purchase some from you: let us know if you have something to share!

    Cost is $30 per person
Register online by Friday, January 22

We are grateful for support from these sponsors:
Food Roots, North Fork 53, and Trillium Natural Foods Grocery
